Trend Control Systems has continued its commitment to apprentices by taking on 50 this year, in co-operation with building system integrators.
The Apprenticeships in Building Services Engineering attracted 550 applications.
Seven apprentices are employed directly by Trend, with the remainder at 26 building system integrators who partner with Trend.
Tim Darkes, managing director of Trend said: “For many years, Trend has successfully recruited and trained apprentices. However, Trend partners have not always been able to match this resource, so they requested our help to fill the industry-wide need for new technicians. The fact that we received 550 applications this year shows clearly that many young people are attracted to a technical career in building services.”
The programme is funded primarily by Trend, which has invested over £160,000 in resources and man hours. Additionally funding comes from the partner companies, which contribute £2,000 per apprentice for the four year programme.
In addition, Trend is in negotiation with the Learning and Skills Council to access Government funding.
Trend is also working with 17 colleges and training providers to tailor courses to the needs of the building services industry.
