Smeg breaks into heating sector

Smeg, the contemporary white goods manufacturer, has launched a range of flueless gas fires into the UK. The company is best known for its ovens and trendy fridges, and believes that the fires will appeal to the growing number of Britons who want a modern look in their homes. Smeg claims the catalytic converter in the fires converts all carbon monoxide from the combustion gas into carbon dioxide, so ensuring they are completely safe without a flue or chimney: “This is so effective that the air coming out is cleaner than the air going in”. An oxygen depletion sensor has also been included in the fires that cuts off the gas supply to the appliance should oxygen levels in the room fall below a specified level. The fires come in three ranges: the Smeg FAB (retro), Classic and Linear appliances and come in red, black, cream or silver. They also require a standard 8mm pipe coupled with adequate ventilation.
