Swimming pools require new ventilation and dehumidification plan every 20 to 25 years or so because of corrosion problems caused by the high levels of moisture and chemicals in the air. Such was the case at Kennet Leisure Centre in Berkshire.
Weger Air Solutions supplied and assembled a new air-handling/dehumidification unit rated at 7.28 m3/s. The new Weger unit featured a duplex heat recuperator section, carefully selected to achieve an efficiency of 96.5% at design conditions and recovering an impressive 296kW.
The unit was supplied partly in sections and in and in “flat-pack” components capable of passing through an opening of 2.5m x 1.2m. The onsite assembly of the final until only took three days to meet a very tight project programme.
The new Weger unit was fitted with a comprehensive controls package, enabling it to work from 100% fresh air to 100% recirculation. The controls are set to achieve a pool hall temperature of 30’C and a relative humidity of 60%, as recommended by the English Sports Council.
