Slimness and performance deliver win-win scenario

The best performance available with a slender design for a commercial façade ventilator are combining to give a win-win scenario for building designers, installers and occupiers.

The Mistrale 75 series, produced by leading natural ventilation manufacturer Gilberts of Blackpool

The Mistrale 75 series, produced by leading natural ventilation manufacturer Gilberts of Blackpool, offers some of the lowest air leakage and U values of its kind. And at just 200mm thick it is also one of the slimmest units, enhancing building line aesthetics and reducing the need for boxing out and associated build costs.

“While performance is important, so is size,” explained Gilberts’ senior technical manager Troy Jones. “We deliberately designed Mistrale to be as slim as possible, to blend as seamlessly as possible into the façade, and to simplify design and installation. We know from customer feedback that Mistrale’s ease of integration into the external envelope, with its associated reduction of internal boxing-out issues etc, is an influencing factor in their selection process.”

Despite its slimness, Mistrale 75 achieves accurate and stable airflow, with air leakage as low as 5m3/hour/m2. The air leakage exceeds current and known future requirements; regulations currently demand air leakage of ≤10m3/hour/m2 and are predicted to lower only to ≤7m3/hour/m2. It achieves a U value as little as 0.93W/m2K – equivalent/comparable to a double-glazed window.

All Mistrale 75 units can be Class A weather-rated, whether using 50mm or 75mm pitch external louvres.

Mistrale 75 is a key component of Gilberts’ range of natural ventilation solutions, encompassing stack, wind-driven and mixed-mode systems to achieve energy-efficient air quality.

All Gilberts’ systems are engineered to order in the UK. Founded 50 years ago, privately owned Gilberts is unique in having its own onsite (85,000ft2) manufacturing facility producing engineered solutions, with an in-house test centre. Technical expertise is supported by bespoke software developed in partnership with the University of Strathclyde, addressing air movement and flow simulation/computation fluid dynamics.
