The new division will be headed by Graham Wright, who has been product manager for the past four years.
He believes heat pumps will offer increasingly significant competition to the traditional gas fired boiler in the domestic and small commercial heating market.
He said: “We believe it presents air conditioning installers with a tremendous opportunity to grow their own businesses and will be supporting them every step of the way.”
Sanyo business planning manager Bob Cowlard said the company hoped to eventually secure 10 per cent of the UK heat pump market through the promotion of its carbon dioxide based ECO system and advanced HFC system.
Mr Cowlard said using energy in the most efficient way to both cool and heat buildings was the key challenge for the future and Sanyo was committed to integrating different technologies effectively.
He said: “We are still committed to air conditioning and are not walking away from that, but this is where we see the market going and the needs of the country going.”
