Price hike by DuPont due to fuel costs

Increasing oil and gas prices plus higher costs for many industrial chemicals have forced DuPont to announce substantial price rises for its Suva refrigerant blends.

The price increases covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa will come into force for shipments on or after April 1.

Gonzalo Alonso, sales manager for DuPont Refrigerants, said: “Increasing oil and gas prices, and subsequently escalating raw material costs for the refrigerant industry, are making a revision of current prices inevitable.

“In addition, sulphur, used in the production of hydrofluoric acid, prices have almost quintupled in recent weeks, principally due to a higher demand for crop protection chemicals.

“Flourspar and chlorine costs continue to go up significantly as well. Transportation costs remain high, adding to the overall unfavourable situation.”

Depending on packaging prices will rise between nine and 10 per cent for bulk and cylinders and 12 to 14 per cent for ton tanks.
