Birmingham New Street M&E package out to tender

The three-year contract, also known as WP6304, covers all of the m&e works on the station’s platforms.
The successful contractor will supply distribution and commissioning of hot and cold water, heating, cooling, gas,
ventilation and smoke extract systems, as well as above-ground drainage and all necessary mechanical plant to allow the station to operate.

The scope of works involved in the contract also covers the supply, installation and commissioning of all
electrical cabled services, including LV distribution, emergency signage, electrical power and lighting and fire
alarms.

Firms have until 3 July to submit pre-qualification questionnaires.

The redevelopment scheme - known as the Birmingham Gateway project - is being led by Mace, which is both the delivery partner and principal contractor.

Atkins is the lead designer on the project. The development incorporates the full refurbishment of the existing
New Street station, including retail areas and the construction of two 30-storey mixed-use towers on the south side.

All the works, to be let in up to 50 separate packages, will be undertaken while the station remains fully operational.
