H&V News takes a look at some of the leading players in the commercial boiler market
Product names, outputs and gross efficiencies
- ecoTEC/46 & 65 kW outputs, seasonal efficiency = 95.8 per cent & 95.2 per cent respectively
- ecoCRAFT/6 models from 80 to 280 kW, seasonal efficiency = 95 per cent
- atmoCRAFT/8 models from 65 to 165 kW, seasonal efficiency = 82 per cent
- Wall Hung: ecoTEC 46 & 65
- Floor standing: ecoCRAFT condensing range
- atmoCRAFT atmospheric range
What flue types can you offer?
The ecoTEC wall-hung range has a complete range of concentric 80/125 mm flue system, including a stainless steel façade system. Non-return flaps are also available.
The ecoCRAFT range is approved for use with any standard flue system and has flue spigots of 150 mm and 200 mm. They also have an air inlet duct and can be made room sealed.
The atmoCRAFT boilers are suitable for use with conventional widely available flue systems.
What fuel types can you offer?
The ecoTEC 46 and atmoCRAFT range can be converted to run on LPG; all others are natural gas.
What are the NOx emissions from your boilers?
ecoTEC - NOx class 5, <40 mg/kWh
ecoCRAFT - NOx class 5, >40 <60 mg/kWh
atmoCRAFT - NOx class 5, >60 <80 mg/kWh
Which of your products qualify for the enhanced capital allowance scheme?
The ecoTEC wall-hung range and ecoCRAFT floor-standing range.
What heat exchanger material do you use?
- ecoTEC range - stainless steel
- ecoCRAFT range - aluminium/silicon alloy
- atmoCRAFT range - cast iron
Can boilers be installed in a cascade system?
All Vaillant boilers can be installed in a cascade system. A maximum of eight can be controlled using our dedicated controller, with a range of low loss headers to suit.
What controls do you offer?
Single boiler controls for up to two heating and one hot water circuit (VRC430+VR61+ VR81) or multiple, up to eight boilers and 15 heating circuits with our VRC630 cascade boiler controller.
All controls offer weather compensation, with up to three independent programming periods per day. Frost protection as standard plus many other functions give greater levels of control for heating systems.
Where BMS integration is required this can be achieved with the VR34 0-10Volt adapter.
For systems that need to incorporate renewables such as solar hot water, Vaillant offer controls that fully integrate boilers and renewables with seamless operation.
What will be the most important development for condensing boilers?
With increasing importance on the need to save energy and improve the fabric of buildings, heat losses are being reduced. This has seen a move from the traditional large floor-standing boilers to modular wall-hung installations that more closely match a building’s heat requirement.
Integration of renewables is inevitable and heating manufacturers need to ensure they can offer complete solutions for all aspects, including developing controls that can interface with BMS solutions. Condensing boilers will still have a place in the future, but the focus needs to be more on how they work with other multi-energy technologies.
What features distinguish your products from others in the market?
Vaillant can offer complete heating solutions to medium-sized multi boiler applications of 2.2 mW. Our controls can give seamless operation between boiler and renewable solutions.
We can offer help and guidance throughout the entire process, with our experienced sales team offering design solutions pre-sale and our national network of engineers providing post-sale support.
Our boilers also offer familiarity across the ranges with common user interfaces and controls taking out the complexity found with other manufacturers. With proven product reliability and quality, Vaillant is a name you can rely on.
