OFTEC gets tough on illegal logo use

The Oil Firing Technical Association said it is to take a tougher stance on non-registered businesses and technicians illegally using the OFTEC logo.

The decision to take harsh action was made after a successful prosecution by Powys trading standards against Mr. David Mees trading as DEE Boiler Services and Oil Boiler Servicing UK.

Mr. Mees was found to be using the OFTEC logo on his website and paperwork, when in fact he was not OFTEC registered.

In court he pleaded guilty to four Trade Description Act offences, and nine Health and Safety Executive Offences. He was ordered to complete 280 hours of community service and costs of £6,750 were awarded.

Jeremy Hawksley, OFTEC chief executive, said: “We must protect the public from the cowboys, and also protect the image of properly trained and OFTEC registered technicians.

'We work closely with trading standards in these cases to investigate any cases of non-registered firms using the OFTEC logo.”
