Worldskills competition for refrigeration apprentices

Worldskills UK is holding the refrigeration skills competition heat at Stevenson College Coalville, Leicestershire from 25-27 September 2012.

The aim of the competition is to identify outstanding performance under competitive pressure. The competition will challenge six apprentices from different companies.

All competitors receive training opportunities in advance of the competition across the following three skill tasks.

Task 1: Fabricate and commission a Refrigeration system that will deliver – 18 deg C cabinet temperature, and include a hot gas defrost with low pressure pump down control in a 12-hour time limit.

Task 2: Complete a mechanical component replacement including refrigerant recovery and re-commission in a three-hour time limit.

Task 3: Diagnose and repair an electrical fault in a one-hour time limit.

The above tasks were originally developed for the Worldskills International London 2011 competition, the details of which will be modified at the start of this competition.

Visitors from colleges, companies and training organisations are all welcome across the three days of competition.

This is an opportunity to see what the apprentices of the future can achieve through competitions. Observe what your organisation would need to be involved in hosting a Worldskills UK training event.
