Willmott Dixon has been chosen to complete a £40m central Nottingham development, put on hold by the recession, which will provide 237 residential apartments and office, restaurant, leisure and retail facilities.
The development, previously known as Southreef, is structurally complete and part-occupied, but was scuppered by the property market downturn in 2008.
Willmott Dixon has won the £5m contract to complete the project by December this year alongside project management and engineering consultant Arup.
42 apartments remain to be built, while facade and internal works are required on a further 34 apartments.
Five commercial units to create office space adjacent to the City Council offices are also to be built.
The scheme is part of the wider Eastside master plan, located on the edge of the Creative Quarter and Southern Gateway business district.
Willmott Dixon operations director Nick Heath said: “Nottingham One is a big part of the city’s growth plans, becoming a major focal point on one of the City’s main arterial routes.”
Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council Graham Chapman said: “This development is a prime example that the market is recovering and Nottingham is a great place to do business.”
“It is really positive news that the scheme is progressing after so many months of stagnation and that a final completion date has now been given.”
Colin Wright, Director, Nottingham One Development Limited added: “This is a prime location for businesses and residents looking to locate in Nottingham; we’ve had significant interest in the scheme and already 16,500 square foot of office space has been let.”
“The development also provides office facilities from 7,000 square foot to 15,000 square foot and is already the UK headquarters for Crytek, the German video gaming company.”
