Warning on keeping pace with regulations

Directors need to boost their knowledge of regulations before they can begin to probe their team’s performance and identify opportunities for improvement, a leading health and safety lawyer has warned.

The challenge is to keep up to date, without getting lost in the detail, according to Osborn Abas Hunt senior partner Madeleine Abas.

Ms Abas, who is also the chair of the Health & Safety Lawyers Association, has commended the Construction News Regulation Report 2011, for helping the industry’s leaders to meet precisely this challenge.

In the foreword to the report, Ms Abas, writes: “To demonstrate strong leadership, directors need a reasonable level of knowledge, as only then can they begin to probe the performance of their team and identify opportunities for improvement.

“It is this exact challenge that Construction News is helping the industry’s leaders to meet with the publication of this report.

“Every chapter has been written by well respected and knowledgeable lawyers and technical experts. Topics are explained in clear and straightforward terms, without being too legalistic or too detailed, and useful tips and suggestions are provided which will help readers when considering what questions to ask of others.”

The report includes an up-to-date focus on:

  • Health & safety
  • Procurement
  • Competition
  • Directors’ duties
  • Building regulations
