Unregistered gas worker prosecuted

A man has been ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service and pay costs of nearly £2,000 for illegally fitting two gas fires and servicing boilers in the Colchester area.

Mark Bond, trading as Bond Technical Services, was found guilty of breaching the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and the Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974.

Colchester Magistrates Court also handed Mr Bond a suspended prison sentence.

When asked for his Gas Safe registration details, he provided the ID number of another engineer, falsely claiming that they worked together.

The Health and Safety Executive investigation found that Mr Bond had previously been registered for gas work between 2003 and 2007.
