Two hurt in suspected gas blast

A man and a woman have been injured in a suspected gas blast, which destroyed part of a house in Buckinghamshire, the BBC has reported.

Five adjoining properties were evacuated after the explosion in the village of Wooburn Green, near Beaconsfield, a spokesperson for the emergency services said.

Local residents rescued a woman before fire crews arrived and tried to rescue the man, who was eventually brought out of the property by firefighters.

“Public-spirited local residents placed themselves in positions of considerable risk in order to come to the aid of the casualties immediately after the explosion, and we are relieved that they came to no harm themselves,” a Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

The extent of the couple’s injuries are unknown.

Thames Valley Police said a cordon was likely to remain in place around the property for some time.
