Tradesman fined £1,500 for illegally displaying Gas Safe Register logos

A Dunfermline businessman who illegally displayed logos for gas safety and enhanced disclosure certification on his website has been fined, The Courier has reported.

Graham Venables, 55, of Thane Place used logos for the Gas Safe Register and an enhanced disclosure body, set up to put customers at ease about workers who are coming into their home but had no authority or qualifications to do so.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court was told the business involved, Hire Me, has now been dissolved with debts of £20,000.

Mr Venables admitted that on October 30 last year being a trader under the name Hire Me he displayed logos for PVG Enhanced Disclosure Scotland and the Gas Safe Register on his business website without the authorisation or permission of the trade association.

Defence agent Roshni Joshi said her client had two workers “lined up” who were qualified in these areas but they were never actually employed.

She said Mr Venables had now set up a new pipe-fitting business.

Mr Venables was fined £1,500.
