Tool giant Hilti takes on press-fit market with launch of own-brand 22V range

Tools and jaws promise high pressing force and failsafe alarms, together with service replacement schemes

Tool giant Hilti has entered the press-fit market with a range of tools and  jaws which it promises will deliver ’exceptional performance and safety’, backed up with a series of services designed to reduce the ’total cost of ownership’.

The Hilti NPR 19-A weighs 1.7 kg, yet provides a pressing force of 19 kN, completing each press within a cycle time of between three to four seconds. For larger diamters, the NPR 32-A has a press force of 32 kN, normally taking seven seconds to complete a cycle. The tool weighs 3.5 kg.

The manufacturer has integrated its trademark level of electronic safety devices, with a audible and visual alarm, based on inbuilt pressure sensors to warn the user if the pressing process is incomplete or if there is a technical problem. Each product also has quick stop and manual retraction functions if required.

Hilti says that its jaw range will allow work across carbon steel, copper, multilayer composite, PEX and stainless steel pipes.

The manufacturer notes that if obtained through its Hilti Fleet Management scheme, the cost of the annual service certificate and any repairs for both the tools and jaws are free-of-charge. A fixed monthly charge covers all these elements for four years.

For customers electing to own their tools and jaws outright, Hilti Tool Service offers a no-cost period of up to two years on all repairs, except for the annual service certificate which carries a nominal fee. Following this initial no-cost period, repair costs are capped.

For both ownership options the tools and jaws will be collected and returned to the customer in just three days, the manufacturer claims.

The press connection tools come with the manufacturer’s tool management app, Hilti Connect, which provides access to a wide range of data including tool type, serial number, ownership, warranty and operating instructions.

The NPR 19-A and NPR 32-A pipe press tools are part of the manufacturer’s 22 V cordless tool platform that includes drill drivers, rotary hammers and angle grinders among other equipment. All Hilti 22 V batteries can be charged using the same charger and can power any of the tools in the range.
