HM Revenue & Customs is now targeting electricians in its ongoing initiative to reclaim unpaid tax from tradespeople.
The campaign follows a similar one for plumbers last year, which generated payments of £2.5m in unpaid tax with the possibility of a further £1.5m from 600 plumbers nationally.
Further to this, 10 plumbers were arrested and face possible prosecution.
Those wishing to take part in the campaign must notify HMRC by 15 May, with full details disclosed and an initial payment made by 15 August.
The HMRC campaign is part of the government’s £917m spending review reinvestment to tackle tax evasion, fraud and avoidance, which aims to raise an additional £7bn each year by 2014/5.
Tax experts are now urging self-employed electricians who believe their tax affairs are not in order to seek professional advice.
