According to Sustainable Homes, many housing associations provide communal heating - but without a set price, relationships with tenants can become strained.
As there is no national benchmark, the rates charged can often lead to complaints. This is especially difficult when residents compare metered heat prices with gas prices.
At Sustainable Homes’ recent heat metering event, there was a huge demand to run a survey of landlords on costs of metered heat to tenants to answer these questions.
As a result, it has launched a survey into the rates being charged. It will summarise the findings and provide respondents with the raw data to help housing associations set a fair rate for their tenants.
The aim of the survey is to find out what rates are charged at a national level, to ensure that residents are being treated fairly.
All respondents will receive the final results of the survey, which will include the prices charged.
In addition, each respondent submitting a completed survey will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three M&S vouchers (worth £25 each).
The deadline is 31 May.
