SPIE has announced that its building services division has been awarded the second phase of the terminal transformation project at Stansted Airport.
The project will see SPIE UK providing services infrastructure to 46 new retail outlet units, which will be completed over three phases.
The building services team will provide construction, mechanical, HVAC, electrical and plumbing services to the retail spaces, as part of phase two of Stansted’s £80m redevelopment plan to transform the existing space and provide travellers with a first-class retail experience.
The transformation has already seen the development of a state-of-the-art security area and promises a complete redesign of the international departure lounge, providing additional latest-design seating areas, together with an extensive variety of the UK’s favourite shops and restaurants for customers.
“SPIE was selected to carry out this project because of the wealth of experience and high quality work the company has demonstrated in the aviation market. With proven in-depth knowledge, experience and expertise, plus a strong track record of delivering on time and within budget, we are sure that SPIE will strengthen the terminal transformation delivery team,” says Stansted Airport head of development and construction Matt Allen.
SPIE UK CEO James Thoden van Velzen says: “This is an excellent opportunity for our building services division at SPIE UK and further advances our already extensive experience in the aviation sector. This is a testament to the building services team’s work and I’m confident that they will be successful in supporting Stansted’s development plan to ensure an exceptional customer experience for visitors as they travel through Stansted.”
