Social housing to grow by just 8pc by 2014

Public housing output is forecast to increase by 8 per cent in real terms between 2009 and 2014, according to new data from the MBD consultancy

However, private housing output is forecast to increase by a moderate 2 per cent in 2010, after falls of 19 per cent and 34 per cent in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

MBD expects private housing output to return to stronger growth form 2011 onwards, with annual growth of between 6 per cent and 10 per cent projected for the years 2011 to 2014.

Overall, output is anticipated to increase by 38 per cent in real terms between 2009 and 2014.
