Social housing holds key to retrofit finance models

Contractors and energy companies must work more closely with local authorities and housing associations to deliver mass retrofit programmes, according to a report for the Homes and Communities Agency.

The Community Green Deal aims to provide recommendations to deliver the 80 per cent carbon reductions pledged in the Climate Change Bill through 25-year community-scale schemes ahead of the 2050 target.

Investment would be in social housing stock, drawing in owner-occupiers and private landlords.

The report said delivering programmes at scale meant more chance of achieving domestic carbon reduction targets for less cost.
