Plant room fire closes city centre

Performances at the Assembly Rooms in Derby have been cancelled because of a fire at the venue’s multi-storey car park on Friday, the Independent has reported.

The police and fire service are investigating the cause of the fire, which is thought to have started accidentally.

Derbyshire Fire Service cordoned off the area and eyewitnesses suggested that at one stage debris could be seen falling from the multi-storey car park.

Derbyshire Police said they had widened the cordon with the danger of vehicles in the car park “exploding”.
