Neil Bumford is the new managing director of Bumford Heating, following the retirement of his parents Chris and Beryl Bumford, who started the business in 1968.
His sister Anna Kirby is the company’s finance director, and other siblings involved in the business include Beth Phillips and Robin Bumford.
The Barnsley-based operations has triumphed over many difficult times, including the miners’ strikes of the 1980s, when much of its work was on British Coal-funded projects.
The company began installing gas-fired central heating for new housing development as an alternative means of income.
Neil Bumford joined the business in the 1990s and developed the company’s online supply services of plumbing and heating equipment.
The business has continued to evolve and now installs all types of systems, including renewable energy options.
The Bumford contracts department is involved in developments for councils and national builders, while its online sales division is a multi-million pound, international business.
The company has attributed some of its success to advice received from business support organisation Enterprising Barnsley.
