More growth recorded for H&V News Awards

A major change to the judging process and another increase in applications shows the industry’s favourite event is firmly in the ascendant.

This year has seen a momentous shift for the industry’s Oscars, following a significant updating of the adjudication system, another increase in entries for the third consecutive year and a pre awards reception evening.

The shortlist of finalists for the H&V News Awards, with Pipe Center continuing as the headline sponsor, has been agreed by the judges, signalling the start of the build-up, as the excitement increases before the presentations take place at the Grosvenor House hotel on the evening of 25 April.

The number of judges has been increased to more than 50 for this year’s event, resulting from an industry-wide recruitment campaign last year. This has allowed dedicated groups to judge a single award, further raising the integrity of the event.

The awards themselves have also been updated for the 2013 presentations. Energy Efficient Installer, Time-Proven M&E Installation and Retrofit Project have been included in the 17 judged awards. These have also made a major contribution to ensure the longevity of the event and maintain its relevance for the years ahead.

The B&ES Gold Award will additionally recognise a deserving individual for their services to the industry, while the Outstanding Achievement award, sponsored by Pipe Center, will recognise the most deserving company.

The 2013 H&V News Awards has recorded just under 200 entries, further endorsing the upgraded judging process. Following a 50 per cent rise in 2011 and 25 per cent increase last year, this means that entry numbers have almost doubled in three years.

Initial online adjudicating has allowed the judges to identify the best entries, which will then embark on stage two of the process.

This involves each finalist being invited to attend the final judging day and deliver a 15 minute presentation to their panel, followed by a question and answer session with the judges. Finalists unable to attend can choose to present via a conference call as an alternative.

This move alone has moved the event even further ahead of any other within the building services sector, but there is still more to come.

This year sees another new introduction in the form of the H&V News Awards Shortlist reception evening, providing an additional night of celebration for those included on the shortlist and members of the extended judging panel.

The reception will be held at a top London hotel on 6 March, hosted by H&V News editor Dennis Flower, and provide a unique networking event with some of the leading individuals and businesses in the building services sector.

The event will be sponsored by UK manufacturer Pegler Yorkshire, with others also being signed up as this issue of H&V News went to press.

Preparations are also well under way for the presentation evening itself, with table bookings continuing to indicate that another capacity attendance will be achieved.

The event attracted more than 1,000 people in 2012, providing yet more proof that the industry’s Oscars are recording growth in all areas. Those wishing to attend the 25 April evening of celebration are therefore advised to book as soon as possible.
