More emphasis on carbon agenda

Leading developers are partnering with the UK Green Building Council to raise awareness of embodied carbon in buildings.

The partners in the project include developers British Land, Derwent London, Land Securities and Tishman Speyer, along with resource efficiency provider WRAP.

The project aims to raise awareness and propose solutions to carbion dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the extraction, manufacture, transportation, assembly, replacement and deconstruction of building materials and products.

The partners state that embodied carbon is becoming increasing important for developers regarding both new build and redevelopment projects.

There are a number of issues surrounding this topic, they state, and it is also likely to be the subject of taxation or legislation in the future.

Their efforts will also focus on Embodied Carbon Week to continue the agenda, which runs from 7 to 11 April next year.
