Latest entrant to solar market starts with South Yorkshire project

Announcing its entry into the solar market, Banks Group has outlined plans for a 5MW solar PV project in South Yorkshire.

It will be located next to the 20.4MW wind farm at Penny Hill.

To date, Banks Group’s main concentration in the renewables sector has been the construction of wind farms.

It also has planning permission for 190MW of onshore projects to add to its existing seven wind farms, along with additional planning applications for more than 250MW.

However, there has been considerable discussion over whether or not the government will end subsidies for onshore wind farms.

Changes to the Renewables Obligation have also seen a rise in the number of solar PV projects of more than 5MW in size, with more than 1.3GW added in the first four months of this year, according to the Department of Energy & Climate Change.
