Landlords encouraged to take part in boiler scrappage scheme

The reminder comes from OFTEC, representative for oil heating and cooking in the UK and Ireland.

Eligible landlords in Scotland can now claim £400 off the cost of a new boiler through the scheme, designed to help reduce CO2 emissions and fuel costs for tenants.

They can apply by calling the Home Energy Hotline on 0800 512 012, with grants delivered on a first come, first served basis.

Boilers eligible for the grant are those which have a G rated efficiency (of 70% or less), and must be replaced by an efficient new boiler as recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.

OFTEC director general, Jeremy Hawksley said: “OFTEC estimate that there are over 93,000 households in Scotland which use oil heating. This scheme will benefit tenants who use oil boilers by reducing their fuel bills by up to 25%.

“It is important that homeowners ensure they use a reputable technician to carry out any works on their household heating systems. Using an OFTEC registered technician provides the consumer with the assurance of a professional service.”
