Landlord fined for Gas Safety Record failings

A landlord has been fined for failing to have a valid Gas Safety Record in place for five of his properties.

Medway Magistrates’ Court heard how, as part of a joint intervention between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Medway Council Housing Officers in March 2014, statements were taken from various tenants; of the seven, only one was found to have a valid Landlord Gas Safety Record in place.

Nitin King, of Bredgar House, Primrose Lane, Bredgar, Sittingbourne, was fined a total of £32,000 and ordered to pay £4,560 in costs after pleading guilty to four charges of breaches to Regulation 36(3) of the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998.

Gas Safety Week is running from 14 to 20 September to raise awareness of gas safety issues.
