John Lewis expands its Home Solutions offering on back of trial success

Home Solutions from John Lewis is growing its membership of local tradespeople, following positive customer response to its trials in the Home Counties and the west country. The scheme encompasses a range of trades from heating engineers and plumbers to plasterers and property maintenance.

John Cotter, Head of Home Solutions said::We’re recruiting more tradespeople because our customers have loved this service in the areas where we’ve been running our trials. We think we’re different from other services out. because we passionately believe in bringing our John Lewis Partnership values to how we manage our trades, and we want to help them grow their own businesses through their association with one of the most trusted brands in the UK.”

The retailer said it has established close relationships with a number of trade organisations and created a council of tradespeople to make sure the business is benefitting both its customers and trade partners. The Trades Council has also assisted in developing a rigorous recruitment process and an in-depth induction for new tradespeople into John Lewis’ customer service standards.

The retailer added that Home Solutions is one of the only trade platforms to send out an expert to check a tradesperson’s previous workmanship before they’re allowed to sign up. It said: ”This helps guarantee the business is providing only the highest quality trade professionals to its customers.”

John Lewis claims that those who sign up will benefit from a range of advantages, from not having membership fees to not putting each job out to open bidding - the jobs are directly allocated. A further advantage is the absence of invoicing, with payments claimed to be made within five working days of completion of the work.

The retailer also stresses that there is no obligation for a tradesperson to work solely with Home Solutions: “It’s designed to fill work gaps, help grow a business, or fit alongside other commitments.”

The Home Solutions service was trialled in Milton Keynes and is currently available in Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Taunton, Berkshire and Central & South West London. Additional recruitment is now taking place for targeted trades in the wider London area.
