Interserve and Kajima Partnerships, have been appointed preferred bidder by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) for the new £33 million National Centre of excellence at Heriot-Watt Research Park, near Edinburgh.
Interserve and Kajima, who are 50/50 partners in the venture, will both invest £1.87 million in the project, which comprises the building of facilities for the processing and testing of blood, tissues and cells as well as research and development, quality and regulatory functions, plus offices and garages.
Construction work will start on site at Heriot-Watt Research Park after the project reaches financial close in Q3 2014, with construction of the centre expected to complete during Q1 2017.
Interserve Kajima will also provide facilities management services at the facility for 25 years from the end of construction.
The development is being funded using the Scottish Government’s Non-Profit Distributing (NPD) Model.
Interserve Kajima project director Richard Coe commented: “We are delighted to be awarded this NPD project where our design will facilitate a wide range of SNBTS activities for years to come.”
