Heating engineer recognised with enterprise award

A heating engineer from Maylandsea, Essex has been named as the best Trade Services Business in Essex at the Ixion Enterprise Awards 2013.

The awards recognise excellence among small business and start-ups in the county that benefited from the government’s New Enterprise Allowance programme.

Stephen Wyss, who runs SW Heating Services, provides residential plumbing and gas heating services. Having been made redundant he found that the economic climate was dissuading companies from employing a man of his age and experience, whereas the National Enterprise Allowance gave him the confidence to start up on his own.

“Even with all the contacts I had after redundancy, finding a job proved impossible. So we found the money for me to retake my qualifications”, said Mr Wyss. “My first job came directly from knocking on doors and jobs have now started coming in through word of mouth from satisfied customers.”

Ixion Holdings chief executive John Govett said: “With these awards we have recognised some outstanding small businesses across the county all brought to fruition with the help and support of the New Enterprise Allowance. The standard of entries across the different award categories was extremely high and impressed the judges – so congratulations to everyone that was shortlisted.”
