Danny Friedman QC calls for wider sharing of technical knowledge to prevent ‘construction disasters of the future’
One of the barristers representing the residents of Grenfell Tower has blasted the way that the technical aspects of construction and their regulation are being communicated and called for wider involvement in the technical debate.
Danny Friedman QC told the Inquiry on Tuesday June 5th that the public and residents need to be more involved in the debate about the technical matters that affect them. He said: ”In order to prevent the construction disasters of the future, we, and that means all of us, need to understand more about the technical side. The science, the law and the debates about both, cannot be the exclusive property of the experts.”
He singled out the Building Regs. He said: The Building Regulations may be complicated and could be simplified, but they are not rocket science and some of the people who are now saying otherwise, are the people who should and did know better.”
