Swale Heating and AmicusHorizon housing association have teamed up to offer residents the chance to learn free basic plumbing skills.
A five-part induction course, held at Swale Heating’s Sittingbourne headquarters, is being run as part of AmicusHorizon’s Doorstep Learning Programme, which has been part-funded by Swale Heating as part of its community giveback initiative, the Big Lottery and AmicusHorizon.
Swale Heating client and customer liaison manager Matt Hobbs said: “This is a great way for Swale Heating to offer very useful and practical support to the local community.
“We’ve designed the course to provide residents with a basic understanding of plumbing and what to do in an emergency, as well as energy conservation measures.
“Our experts will be covering a wide range of topics, including how to deal with a gas or water leak, where to find a stopcock, the difference between tank hot water feed and mains pressure feed, and how taps are constructed.
“The course also includes things like how to deal with fault codes on boilers and other gas appliances, how to use thermostat controls, the dangers of carbon monoxide and other fumes, and what to do if boiler pressure drops.”
