Glen Dimplex Boilers has issued a stark warning to installers about the perils of fitting generic spare parts that claim to be suitable for all brands of boilers.
This warning follows an increase in recalls to boiler repairs with incorrect parts and the rising number of warranty and insurance claims that are deemed invalid as a result.
Managing Director of Glen Dimplex Boilers, Colin Gardner explains: “When it comes to boiler spare parts, one size does NOT fit all. More and more installers are lured into buying generic alternatives to the manufacturers’ branded parts as they often come with a cheaper price tag. Sadly, this is a false economy and a short-term gain.
Certain boiler parts such as the electronic programmer are highly technical and specific to each manufacturer. As a result, they remain the intellectual property of the manufacturer and are IP protected. This means they cannot be replicated,” adds Colin.
He warns: “Generic spare parts are often of an inferior quality - hence the cheaper price – and they do not match the manufacturer’s exact specification. Not only can they invoke a warranty or insurance claim, they can pose a severe health and safety risk.”
“Winter is on the horizon and with it comes an increasing number of boiler breakdowns. Whilst homeowners don’t want to be out of pocket, they do want peace of mind and assurance that the repair to their boiler is genuine and won’t cause repeat problems,” concludes Colin.
Glen Dimple Boilers prides itself on its customer service offering. As well as a spares department that holds over 3,000 different components, the company boasts a dedicated team of service engineers to provide nationwide service and after care for its range of Dimplex gas boilers.
