A North-west family is celebrating a £30 million deal to sell its business to British Gas.
PH Jones has grown into a firm with a multimillion-pound turnover since it was set up in plumber Phil Jones’s back garden in 1963. The company, which has 1,200 staff, provides metering services and property maintenance to private and public sector clients.
Husband and wife team Phil and Brenda Jones will retire as a result of the deal, while their sons, Martin and Chris, will continue to grow the family success story in a new business venture.
PH Jones managing director Martin Jones said: “Having nurtured and successfully grown the business for nearly 50 years, the time is right for mum and dad to exit the company and enjoy a well-earned retirement.
“We’ve built this business on strong family values and these have been the foundation of its success. Chris and I are going to use these same values to develop our business PH Jones Metering Services.”
PH Jones has three divisions - two of which, Homeservices and Facilities Management, have been bought by British Gas.
Martin and Chris will take equal stakes in the third strand, Utility Services, which is running a £15 million turnover.
