Evictions over gas check failures

Two tenants who failed to allow access to their properties for compulsory yearly gas checks have been evicted.

Rebecca Lord, 22, of Salmesbury House, Ramsbottom and 55-year-old Alan Glossop, of Coronation Gardens, Radcliffe had letters, visits and a Notice of Intention to Seek Possession served.

Despite this, both tenants still failed to allow access for the checks, which resulted in Bury County Court granting possession orders against them.

A spokesman for Six Town Housing, which manages Bury Council’s housing stock, said: “We have a legal duty to undertake annual gas safety inspections, and we will not deviate from that duty. These inspections are necessary to ensure the safety of the tenant and their neighbours.

“In all cases where exhaustive attempts to gain access to carry out the inspection has failed we will seek possession of the property.”

A full gas services has now been completed prior to the properties being occupied.
