Electrical engineering contractor Spie expands UK business

Electrical and mechanical engineering company SPIE has acquired Stockport-based electrical engineering contractor Alard.

This acquisition will enable it to consolidate the growth of SPIE UK, its UK subsidiary, developing expertise in electrical engineering in the UK and strengthen its presence in the North of England.

With over 26 years of experience, Alard currently employs 43 people and generated revenue of £3.1m in 2012.

SPIE UK CEO James Thoden van Velzen said: “The acquisition of Alard fits perfectly in our strategic plan to expand our regional presence and acquisition of technologies and specialized services.”

The move is intended to help Spie UK develop its experience in electrical engineering and expand its presence in the north of England.
