District heating consultation announced

The Department of Energy and Climate is to hold a consultation on the EU Energy Efficiency Directive’s application of metering and billing within district heating systems, due to come into effect in June 2014.

The DECC says the consultation will aim to propose a number of ways to comply with mandatory requirements for metering and billing within the directive.

Further requirements will be subject to tests on cost requirements and technical feasibility, it states.

Owners of district heating, district heating and community heating and hot water schemes will be mainly responsible for implementing the measures.

The DECC has teamed up with the UK District Energy Association to arrange workshops prior to the launch of the consultation.

The second of these will be held at Newport’s Lysaght Institution on 4 February from 09.30 to 14.00.
