Cut waste, not spending says building engineering body

Trevor Hursthouse, SEC Group’s chairman, called on the Chancellor to achieve savings by cutting out waste in construction rather than by cutting capital spending.

“We had an inquiry over 16 years ago into construction procurement practices.  This revealed that application of best practice would achieve cost savings of 30%.  These savings have – by and large – still to be realised”.
