Crane Fluid Systems streamlines PICV installation processes

Use of pressure independent control valves has improved installation costs on a major London office refurbishment, according to its manufacturer

Pressure independent control valve technology developed by Crane Fluid Systems has helped developers of a major North London office refurbishment project to realise a more sustainable building operation that it said also offers improved installation costs.

M&E contractor Imtech selected the company’s Dominator Peak Pro manifold assemblies for the six-story Wenlock works project in Shoreditch.

By working alongside one another, Crane FS and Imtech have achieved a sustainable building utilising the latest and most efficient valve technologies.

Under the project, air is to be supplied through a raised access floor and circulated through soffit mounted fan coil units, screened in a central zone above an expanded mesh raft.

Early engagement with the site team was crucial, the partners said, demonstrating the benefits of utilising Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs). This was followed by a review of the schematics, in which Crane FS advised on PICV locations as well as providing advice on valves that could be removed - allowing Imtech to benefit from a reduced asset cost.

Dominator Peak Pro units were provided for review not only to Imtech but also to the chosen fan coil unit manufacturer, Dunham-Bush. Crane FS said it works closely with all key OEMs to ensure product compatibility and to resolve any concerns at as early a stage as possible to ensure a seamless project delivery process.

Crane Fluid Systems has a policy of also performing production testing on all products leaving its factory to ensure ‘perfect performance every time’. However, the manufacturer added that even prior to production, the valve has undergone significant design validation testing, being subjected to 10,000 cycles, which is equivalent to 15 years of typical service.
