Constructionline’s new scheme joins the SSIP forum

Acclaim, Constructionline’s recently launched health and safety assessment scheme, has become a member of Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP). Acclaim forms part of Constructionline’s continued commitment to reduce duplication in the pre-qualification process.

By acting as an umbrella organisation, SSIP aims to remove the need for suppliers to join multiple health and safety accreditation schemes. This means that by recognising accreditations from any of the 35 SSIP scheme members, buyers can be reassured that suppliers have met stage one health and safety standards.

Suppliers can choose any one of the 35 schemes that suits them best. SSIP estimates it is already saving contractors £6.5m per year in administration.

Constructionline sales and marketing director Philip Prince said: “As a founder member, Constructionline has always been an advocate of SSIP’s principles of mutual recognition. This is recognised in our pre-qualification questionnaire, which allows suppliers to bypass the health and safety appendix if they hold an accreditation from an SSIP scheme. So far, nearly 11,000 Constructionline members have claimed this exemption. The launch of Acclaim allows those suppliers without an SSIP approved accreditation to gain one as part of their Constructionline membership for the first time.

To pass the SSIP audit, Acclaim was required to demonstrate that its assessment process is aligned to the core criteria of Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007). Acclaim’s health and safety assessment is provided by Capita Symonds.

Mr Prince continued: “Credibility is integral to the service Acclaim provides and we are delighted to be working with our assessment partner, Capita Symonds, who is one of the country’s leading construction consultancies. Its rigorous assessment processes ensure that suppliers do not fail without a peer review by a senior assessor.

“It is promising to see so many of our members already signed up to one SSIP scheme or another. We hope that with the launch of Acclaim and the SSIP education programme that we have rolled out to our buyers, many more suppliers and buyers will realise the benefits of SSIP.”
