Changes to wiring regulations apply from June

The third amendment to the Wiring Regulations will apply to all new and rewired installations designed after 30 June.

The changes in regulation 421.1.201 require consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies for use in domestic (household) premises to have their enclosures manufactured from non-combustible material – for example, steel.

Newey & Eyre has pledged its full support to Amendment 3 of the Wiring egulations while asserting that it is vital for installers to get up to speed now.

The electrical wholesaler reminded installers to take action today in order to get up to speed with the new requirements.

Senior product manager Kevin Norman said: “Installers must ensure installations comply with the new standards and that correct inspection, testing certificates and reports are completed.

“Of course this will mean extra work for the already time-stretched installer, but we have to remember why these reforms were brought in in the first place.”
