Centenary celebration for Apprentice Award

To mark 100 years of the JB Wilkinson Apprentice Merit Shield Award, the Newcastle and District Branch of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), is organising a Centenary Dinner, which will also include the annual awards of the Wilkinson Shield for 2013.

The event will take place on 17 October at The Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle at 7pm. The guest speakers are Chris Sneath, Past Master of The Worshipful Company of Plumbers and Colin Topp, ex TV Rogue Traders’ consultant.

Mr. Wilkinson was a member of The Worshipful Company of Plumbers (WCP) and was renowned for his high standards of workmanship.  His commitment to the training of apprentice plumbers and his forthcoming term as Master of the WCP led to the launch of the award to recognise excellence.

Colleges in the Northern Counties are eligible to enter plumbing students for the award. The winning student’s college receives the Wilkinson Merit Shield for one year, together with a commemorate memento of the centenary. The winning student, along with all of the other participating students in the 2013 Wilkinson shield, will be presented with prizes.
