Calor Gas has welcomed the news that the production company and broadcaster of Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home have removed a segment of the fourth episode of the series which showed Kevin and his team dismantling a gas cylinder to use in heating a hot tub.
Both Channel 4 and Optomen have also issued the following statement, further to this decision: ‘In this episode [aired Sunday 14 October], an old gas cylinder was converted into a wood burner to heat the hot tub.
“Channel 4 would like to make clear that converting gas cylinders in this way can be highly dangerous and can also be unlawful. It should therefore never be attempted by you under any circumstances.”
This episode has currently been removed from 4oD and all other related websites.
This follows UKLPG contacting the programme makers, on behalf of the liquefied petroleum gas industry in the UK, to draw their attention to this irresponsible footage and remind them that such activity is not just highly dangerous but also unlawful.
Throughout the duration of their life, gas cylinders remain the property of the gas cylinder company and it is only they who, as the owner, can dispose of the cylinder.
Calor has warned previously of the dangers of attempting to construct wood burners from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.
