Leader of the Commons Sir George Young has sparked hopes of a decision next week on the £55 billion Building Schools for the Future programme.
Contractors have been in limbo since the coalition government came to power last month and said it was reviewing the Labour-led programme to renew the secondary school estate.
The Government is widely expected to slash funding to BSF, but there was no news on the programme in this week’s Budget.
Labour MP Emma Reynolds yesterday asked Sir George whether the Government would be making a decision on BSF before the 20 October comprehensive spending review.
He replied: “The outcome of the comprehensive spending review will indeed be announced on 20 October, but I understand that a statement on Building Schools for the Future is likely to be made next week.”
