Boost for Scottish boiler scrappage

Plumb Center has announced it will add £50 towards the replacement of a Worcester Bosch boilers under the Scottish Government’s boiler scrappage scheme.

Eligible householders currently receive £400 following the purchase of a new boiler.

The Scottish Government recently added a further £7.5 million to the existing £65m budget, to increase its efforts in tackling fuel poverty.

The scheme is intended to provide more than 18,000 householders with affordable central heating.

The Plumb Center scheme requires qualifying boilers to be installed by SNIPEF and Gas Safe-registered installers.

Plumb Center regional trading director Robert Beagley for Scotland and Northern Ireland said: “This is a good, forward-thinking initiative.

“As a trade we need to support this by alerting householders to the fact that if their boiler is more than 15 years old, not only is it almost certainly a ‘standard boiler’, which by modern standards is inefficient, but that installing a new condensing boiler could cut up to £300 a year off their gas bill.”
