Babcock acquires LGE Process

Engineering support services firm Babcock International has acquired the Edinburgh-based liquid gas plant firm LGE Process from the Weir Group for £23m.

LGE, which had a gross revenue of £26.3m in 2011, designs and builds plants for processing, storage and handling of liquid gases, supplying solutions to the marine and onshore liquid gas sectors.

LGE is to be combined with Babcock’s Design Services branch within its Marine and Technology division.

The wing operates in the naval and commercial marine markets, including oil and gas, and with the addition of LGE will form a mid-sized specialist energy and marine technology business serving ships, platforms and onshore facilities.

Babcock chief executive Peter Rogers said the acquisition “will create a strong business, well positioned to build on its current positions and develop into new commercial marine markets, particularly within the oil and gas market.”
