600 solar panels installed at UK’s first solar-powered bakery

Pocklington’s Bakery has become the UK’s first bakery to be solar powered, after installing 600 solar panels at its headquarters in Withern, Lincolnshire, the Louth Leader has reported.

The installation will supply nearly 90% of its electricity during daylight hours and 60% of its total energy requirement.

Pocklington’s Bakery received support from Lincolnshire County Council’s resource efficiency and waste reduction programme SUSTAIN Lincolnshire.

Managing director Chris Pocklington said: “Our business relies on electricity for baking and we are acutely aware of our environmental impact both locally and internationally.

“The SUSTAIN team were confident that solar panels would be a good investment for us, so after a lot of thought and research we decided that renewable energy was the next logical step.”
