Water and space heating equipment manufacturer and distributor Hyco Manufacturing has begun construction work on purpose-built premises intended for completion next May.
The company will then relocate to the new 26,000 sq ft site at nearby Normandy Court, Wakefield Europort, more than doubling the size of its existing 12,000 sq ft premises.
The move is intended to enable it to expand its research and development facilities, introduce a dedicated assembly line and increase stock-holding facilities of electric water heating, space heating equipment and hand dryers.
The company reports that growing demand for its products has prompted the moveafter sales increased by 20 per cent to £3.2 million in 2009/10.
The expansion will also see Hyco increase the size of its workforce from 15 to 23 over the next two to three years.
Managing director Mike McHugh said: “Our current premises have served us well but we now need a bigger and more flexible site. With 26,000 sq ft, we’ll be able to do so much more and meet the demands of our growing list of customers. It is also exciting that the move means we will be creating new jobs at a time when unemployment is escalating.”
