One of the UK’s largest steel plants could be mothballed, it was revealed today.
Corus is today understood to be in talks over the future of the Teesside Cast Products plant in Redcar, which could see the jobs of 2,000 workers in jeopardy.
Workers were this morning told a 90-day consultation would begin next week on the future of the site.
Corus, owned by India’s Tata Steel - the world’s sixth largest steelmaker, said the decision was unavoidable after the termination of a major contract by four international steel slab buyers.
